Apple Newtons

Return to Index

Apple Newtons, the cookie with an apple fruit filling, were discontinued as a primary flavor by Nabisco around the time the company rebranded "Fig Newtons" to simply "Newtons" in 2012.

Product Description: Apple Newtons were a variation of the classic Fig Newton cookie, featuring a soft, chewy, cake-like exterior wrapped around a center filled with apple puree and flavorings. They were a popular alternative to the original fig flavor and were part of a lineup of different fruit fillings that also included raspberry and strawberry.

Discontinuation Details

Timeline: While the original Apple Newtons were largely phased out around 2012, the "Apple Cinnamon" variation was also discontinued later, with reports of it vanishing from shelves around 2019 after a brief return.

Reason: The discontinuation was part of a brand strategy to modernize the product line and attract younger snackers who were less interested in figs. Nabisco shifted focus to other flavors like strawberry and raspberry, which proved more popular.

Replacement: Nabisco released a "Baked Apple & Cinnamon" flavor at one point, but fans of the original Apple Newtons noted it was not the same product.
