Sizzlean

Return to Index

Sizzlean was a popular, leaner processed breakfast meat from the 1970s-80s, made from ground turkey, pork, and beef, marketed as a healthier bacon alternative, but was eventually discontinued around 2005 due to declining sales as low-fat trends faded, despite its memorable slogans like "Move over, bacon, there's something leaner!".

What it was: A cured, fabricated breakfast strip, similar to bacon but with less fat and shrinkage. Made from a mix of turkey, pork shoulder, and beef, with an all-beef version also available. Had a chewier, meatier texture, unlike the crispiness of traditional bacon.

Why it was popular: Marketed heavily in the health-conscious 1980s as a lower-fat option. Catchy slogans like "Don't bring the bacon, bring home the Sizzlean!" boosted its appeal.

Why it was discontinued: Sales dropped in the 1990s as the low-fat craze waned. It was fully discontinued by 2005, likely due to a combination of declining demand and ConAgra focusing on more profitable products.
